The Benefits of Slower Speeds: Introduction
All of the major impacts of our road transport system are a function of some combination of the speed, volume and mix of traffic. The aspects are interrelated, since a change in one may affect the others. However speed lends itself to the most immediate interventions and we have an existing legal framework to manage speed.
Speed control is the most direct and equitable way to reduce the impacts and distribute the benefits of our transport system.
